Extra Info: What is a Scraper Plane? Scraper Plane Videos
Manufacturer: Stanley
Plane Type: Scraper Plane
Model No: 212
This review is on the Stanley small scraper plane number 212 also referred
to as the Stanley 212 single handle scraper plane.
The handy Stanley 212 scraper plane is 137mm (5 1/2 inch) long with a forward
tilted Rosewood front knob and finger/thumb indent grips on the outer
side of the plane walls, all set-up to make it easy to use one handed.
The indent grips on the sides were advertised as the '"Hand-y" feature'
and as being suitable for violin makers and suitable for small scraping
tasks.
The Stanley 212 has a blade angle fine adjustment mechanism for accurately
setting the angle at which the blade is set.
The blade angle fine adjustment mechanism is controlled by turning
the centrally positioned brass nut.
The plane accepts scraper blades up to 35mm (1 3/8 inch) wide.
The blade is held in place / released by turning the knurled edged brass
nut on the lever cap.
The 212 has the usual Stanley black japanned finish.
The Stanley 212 is effectively a compact version of the
Stanley 112 scraper plane.
The Stanley 212 has since been revived and modernised in the form of the
Veritas small scraper plane.
