Veritas Small Scraping / Scraper Plane Review By: I.Ball

Category: Scrapers

Manufacturer: Veritas

Plane Type: Small Scraping / Scraper

Model No:

This Veritas Small Scraping Plane review is about the small scraping plane made by Veritas Tools of Canada. This plane is also referred to as the Veritas Small Scraper Plane.

The Veritas Small Scraping Plane is a scraper plane well suited for final smoothing of smaller areas including working difficult grain / highly figured timber.

The Veritas Small Scraper Plane is a 5 3/8" long plane constructed with a ductile cast-iron body which is fitted with a 50mm (2") wide high carbon steel blade (1mm thick) (45 degree grind).

The scraper blade sits just forward of centre of the plane with the blade covering the full width of the body, much like a rebate plane does.

It sits in a fixed frog which sets the scraper blade at a 20 degree angle; seen as the best angle.

Many users like rounding the edges of the scraper blade as this aids in helping prevent grooves/ridges in the piece of timber being worked which otherwise may be caused by the blade corners.

The Veritas Small Scraper Plane has a comfortable adjustable palm rest which can be rotated to either side.

The adjustment of the palm rest allows the user to use the plane comfortably and efficiently at different angles which can be useful in tight areas.

This plane weighs 1 1/2lb.

Supplied in a Veritas cardboard box.

Cautions / Notes

* Important: please refer to the 'disclaimer' at the foot of this review.
* Wearing safety clothing and eye protection is usually a good idea to help protect against injury.

- The blade(s)/cutter(s) is very sharp, take suitable precautions when using/handling/storing the plane/cutter(s) to prevent injury.

- Failure to loosen parts when making adjustments to the plane can result in damage to the plane such as cross-threading screw threads. Never force a part to move.

- Overtightening parts can cause damage to the plane and the plane threads.
