Extra Info: What is a Scrub Plane? Scrub Plane Videos
Manufacturer: Record
Plane Type: Scrub
Model No: 400 1/2
The Record number 400 1/2 is commonly known as
the Record Scrub Plane.
The Record number 400 1/2's main distinctive features are that it is a
narrow, simplified bench plane with a very open mouth with Record blue
finish.
The open mouth allows large amounts of shavings to pass through it as
it works a piece of timber.
This feature makes the plane suited to
carrying out rougher work and removing lots of stock quickly.
The Record Scrub Plane is fitted with a hardwood rear handle, hardwood
front knob, screw cap and single iron.
The plane blade is ground with a round edge to ensure the plane can
cope with heavy work.
The Record Scrub Plane No. 400 1/2 was based upon the
old Stanley 40 Scrub Plane.
In recent times Veritas Tools have introduced a scrub plane which is similar
to the Record 400 1/2 Scrub Plane and Stanley 40 Scrub Plane, see the
Veritas Scrub Plane Review.
