Stanley Chamfer Spokeshave 65 Review By: I.Ball

Category: Old Spokeshaves

Manufacturer: Stanley
Tool Type: Spokeshave
Model No: 65

The Stanley chamfer spokeshave number 65 is a simple 10 1/2 inch long chamfer shave.

The 65 has a round face with two adjustable fences positioned under the shave.

The fences are quickly adjusted by releasing and securing the thumb screws on top of the shave arms.

The fences allow any through or stopped 'chamfer' to be produced and repeated evenly and uniformly.

The 38mm (1 1/2 inch) wide blade on the 65 spokeshaves has to be manually placed in position by hand.

The combination of the fences and the 1 1/2" cutter means this tool can chamfer any width up to 1 1/2".

Once in place, the cutter is secured by locking the lever cap on to the blade. The lever cap is locked / released by turning the lever cap thumbscrew.

The spokeshave body and lever cap are finished with a black japanning finish.

The handles on the 65 are advertised as 'straight handle'.

Each handle has a convenient circular hole cut in the end to allow the tool to hung from a hook in the workshop.

The Stanley 65 is almost identical in design and function to the Record 065 Chamfer Shave and the Edward Preston 89 Chamfer Shave with the obvious difference being the colour.
