Stanley 70 Review By: I.Ball
Category: Old Cabinet Scrapers
Manufacturer: Stanley
Plane Type: Box Scraper
Model No: 70
The Stanley box scraper number 70 consists of a small hinged head equipped
with a 51mm (2 inch) wide scraper blade which is all controlled with
a long hardwood handle.
The base on the Stanley 70 scraper is slightly convex; the 70 scraper
blade mirror's this curvature.
The head has the Stanley black japanned finish.
Over the years there has been a few different design modifications,
mainly to the material used.
The hardwood handle has been made using Maple with a brass ferrule,
with later examples having a steel ferrule and a hardwood handle with
a lacquered finish.
The tool as the name suggests is ideal for scraping small work such as boxes.
In particular the box scraper is ideal for removing marks such as pencil marks
and removing any knotty unevenness.
The oldest Stanley 70 scrapers were made by Stanley Rule & Level. If the original
blade is still present it will have the markings 'Stanley Rule & Level' across it.
