Extra Info: What is a Smoothing Plane? Smoothing Plane Videos
Manufacturer: Record
Plane Type: Smoothing
Model No: 03C
The Record smoothing plane number 03C is identical to the
Record 03 plane
with the
difference being the sole of the 03C is corrugated; a series of parallel
grooves running the length of the sole.
This type of sole is referred to as a corrugated sole. The 'C' in the
model number '3C' stands for 'corrugated'.
The idea behind the corrugated plane is the sole has less friction when
planing, particularly as the board becomes true. The smoothness of the
planing can be improved further by lubricating the sole with oil/wax etc.
