Record 050 Plane Review By: I.Ball

Manufacturer: Record
Plane Type: Combination (includes Plough)
Model No: 050

The Record 050 combination plane, often referred to as the Record plough plane 050 or Record plow plane 050, officially is a combination plane which includes the ability to be a plough plane. See the extra info above for more on this. The Record 050 plane is a comfortable sized plane for creating a wide range of functions including:

   - Plough / Plow
   - Dado
   - Tongue and groove
   - Bead
   - Centre bead
   - Rabbet and fillester

The Record 050 was sold with 15 tungsten steel plane cutters as standard.

The Record 050 combi plane is almost identical to the Record 050A. See the Record 050A plane review for the core details about the Record 050 and the below details of the differences between the two planes.

What Is The Difference Between The Record 050 And The Record 050A Planes?

The 050A weighs approximately 1/4lb extra than the 050 due to the 050A having an additional narrow cutter clamping bracket and additional 1/8" (3mm) and 3/16" (4mm) additional plough cutters.

Note:
The photo shows the Record 050 with the clamp and additional cutters which effectively makes the tool in the photograph a Record 050-A.

These three extra parts could be bought by owners of the Record 050 combination plane as an upgrade converting their 050 into an 050A. These parts allowed the user to make narrower grooves than the standard cutters allowed.
