Norris 7 Review By: I.Ball
Category: Old Infill Planes
Manufacturer: Norris
Plane Type: Shoulder
Model No: 7
The Norris steel shoulder reabte plane model number 7.
The Norris 7 plane is a one piece steel shoulder plane fitted with a
rosewood infill, a rosewood wedge and a shouldered cutter.
The Norris 7 was produced in a range of sizes:
- 6" x 1/2" (13mm)
- 7" x 5/8" (16mm)
- 7" x 3/4" (19mm)
- 8" x 1" (25mm)
- 8" x 1 1/8" (29mm)
- 8" x 1 1/4" (32mm)
- 8" x 1 1/2" (38mm)
The wedge slides into the plane until it firmly secures the blade in
position.
A different shaped wedge or a wedge made from a different material
indicates the wedge has been replaced. If the wedge is a different
colour to the infill then this may mean the wedge has been replaced
also.
The Norris number 7 was produced with the standard straight across
mouth and also produced with a skewed mouth at extra cost.
The Norris 7 plane blade cutting section spans the full width of the
plane with the bevel edge side facing upwards.
The plane can be used left or right handed and can be laid perfectly
flat and used on either of its sides to trim rebates, shoulder lines
and tenons.
