Henry Taylor Paring Chisel Review By: I.Ball

Category: Paring Chisels

Manufacturer: Henry Taylor Tools

Tool Type: Paring Chisel

This Henry Taylor Paring Chisel review covers the Paring Chisel produced by Henry Taylor Tools of Sheffield, England.

The Henry Taylor Bevel Edge Paring Chisel is a long-standing traditional woodwork chisel with a long length slender blade with bevelled sides making this tool ideal for paring work as well as allowing access to difficult corners.

The Henry Taylor Bevel Edge Paring Chisel is available in sizes ranging from 1/4" (6mm) - 1 1/4" (32mm).

The length of these blades are approximately 210mm - 250mm.

The blade is bevelled on three faces with the blade tapering towards the cutting edge.

The blades are sold sharp, ready to use out of the packet, some very minor sharpening may be needed.

These chisels are made from the long standing Henry Taylor Tools who have been making hand tools since 1834.

The chisels are made using traditional techniques coupled with modern heat treatment and finishing techniques with the blade being carefully forged, correctly hardened and tempered to give a blade that holds a good edge.

henry taylor chisel handle

The chisel is fitted with a darkly finished hardwood handle with a contrasting bright brass ferrule. The handle is given the red Henry Taylor 'Diamic' brand sticker which sits richly against the dark handle.

These paring chisels are made by hand through a series of processes and not in a factory conveyor belt production machine / drop stamping mould. They may vary very slightly from chisel to chisel due to the traditional way in which they are made. Knowing the history and knowing by buying this tool you are keeping this history and traditional craftsmanship going really adds an extra aura to the tool each time you use it.

Having been to the Henry Taylor factory, I can safely say the tools are made using old techniques, traditional tools and old machinery with the glowing molten metal being bashed by a worker wearing thick round goggles, Henry Taylor are keeping the golden age of Sheffield tool making alive.

Usually supplied in a plastic sleeve.
