Union Plane No. 2 Review By: I.Ball

Manufacturer: Union

Plane Type: Smoothing

Model No: 2

The Union smoothing plane number 2 is a small 182mm long plane made in USA.

The Union number 2 was the smallest of the Union bench plane range.

The body of the plane is constructed from cast iron. The sole and the sides of the body were originally machined and ground to make sure the plane body is flat and true.

The top-side of the plane body is finished with a black finish which is usually synonymous with the Stanley plane range.

The Union 2 plane has the lateral lever adjuster and frog adjusting mechanism which is almost identical to most planes of this type.

The plane has a shaped Rosewood rear handle and Rosewood front knob.

The plane blade is marked 'Union MFG Co, New Britain CT, USA'.

The Union number 2 plane is very similar to the Stanley number 2 plane. So much so that if someone was to switch the lever cap from a Union lever cap to a Stanley lever cap, the plane could easily be mistaken for a Stanley number 2 without closer inspection.
