Stanley Spokeshave 53 Review By: I.Ball

Category: Old Spokeshaves

Manufacturer: Stanley

Tool Type: Spokeshave

Model No: 53

The old Stanley spokeshave number 53.

The handles on the 53 are advertised as a 'raised handle'; the handles are arched and raised slightly above the core middle section. The handles have grip pads towards the end of the handles to offer the user extra grip and control.

Each handle has a circular hole cut in the end to allow the tool to be hung from a hook in the workshop.

The earlier versions of the Stanley 53 spokeshave were made by Stanley Rule & Level Co. The original spokeshave cutters had 'Stanley Rule & Level Co.' stamped on the blade.

The early spokeshaves also had a clamp consisting of a brass head with a screw in the centre.
