The old Stanley spokeshave number 53.
The handles on the 53 are advertised as a 'raised handle'; the handles are arched
and raised slightly above the core middle section. The handles have grip pads towards
the end of the handles to offer the user extra grip and control.
Each handle has a circular hole cut in the end to allow the tool to be hung from
a hook in the workshop.
The earlier versions of the Stanley 53 spokeshave were made by Stanley
Rule & Level Co. The original spokeshave cutters had 'Stanley
Rule & Level Co.' stamped on the blade.
The early spokeshaves also
had a clamp consisting of a brass head with a screw in the centre.
