Stanley Marking Gauge 90 Review By: I.Ball

Manufacturer: Stanley

Tool Type: Marking Gauge

Model No: 90

The Stanley marking gauge number 90 is a single rod gauge with a head which slides on a 6 1/4 - 6 1/2 inch rod.

The gauge is marked with measurements running the length of the rod.

The measurements go up to 5 inches with each inch broke down into increments, some I believe are 1/8" increments and some 1/16" increments.

Possibly the earlier versions were 1/8" increments as the one photographed with the Stanley Rule & Level nut was 1/8" increments.

In the 1920's they were advertised as 1/16" increments.

The rod has a tempered point at the top end of the pole for scribing the wood.

There are a few different types of head; one with black Stanley paint and one with nickel plate. The nickel plated design was produced in the 1930's and before.

The earliest Stanley 90 gauges were made by Stanley Rule & Level Co.
