Stanley 6C Plane Review By: I.Ball
Category: Old Fore Planes
Extra Info: What is a Fore Plane? Fore Plane Videos
Manufacturer: Stanley
Plane Type: Fore
Model No: 6C
The Stanley fore plane number 6C is basically identical to the
Stanley number 6
with the exception of the sole. The sole of the number 6C has a series
of parallel grooves running the length of the sole.
This type of sole is referred to as a corrugated sole. The 'C' in the
model number '6C' stands for 'corrugated'.
The idea behind the corrugated plane is the sole has less friction when
planing, particularly as the board becomes true. The smoothness of the
planing can be improved further by lubricating the sole with oil/wax etc.
