The Stanley dado plane number 39 is an old plane from the Stanley range
of fillister, rabbet and dado planes.
The Stanley 39 was made from grey cast iron in a design which at a glance
has a fairly similar look and feel to the
Stanley 78 duplex rabbet and fillister plane.
The Stanley 39 is equipped with a rear handle, an adjustable
depth stop, two
spurs (the Stanley 78 only has one spur),
and a skewed cutter which sits in a central mouth (the Stanley 78 has two mouths and doesn't have a skewed cutter).
The plane was finished in a black japanning, as with nearly every Stanley
plane.
The plane was made in a wide range of sizes including:
- 1/4 inch
- 3/8 inch
- 1/2 inch
- 5/8 inch
- 3/4 inch
- 13/16 inch
- 7/8 inch
- 1 inch
