The Stanley block plane number 100 is a miniature flat bottom squirrel
tailed plane made in USA by Stanley.
The plane has a curved metal handle at the rear of the plane; this handle
is likened to an animal's tail so this type of plane is often called
a tailed plane or more specifically a squirrel plane.
This type of plane is also often referred to as a model makers plane, violin makers
plane or a pattern makers plane as these were the core trades which
used this type of plane.
