E.Preston 1393S Review By: I.Ball
Category: Old Routers
Extra Info: What is a Router?
Manufacturer: Edward Preston
Plane Type: Router
Model No: 1393S
The Edward Preston number 1393S was advertised as a reeding, rebating
and moulding tool. The tool also offered the capability of chamfering.
This tool came with six cutters as standard which offered a range of
profiles:
- Skew
- Hollow / Bead
- Round
- Plough / Grooving (narrow)
- Plough (wide)
- Special Mould
This Edward Preston reeding / rebating / moulding tool was also supplied
with a fence. The fence is fully adjustable and can be used on either
side / end of the tools sole.
The fence is secured in place with the use of a screw. The fence has
a runner slot to allow the fence to be ajusted to any distance within
the limits of the runner.
There are two fence screw holes on either side / end of the sole
allowing the fence to cover a wide range of positions.
The ring eyelet is used to secure the chosen cutter in place.
The ring eyelet appears a little out of place, my first thought was
it was a replacement however this is not the case, the ring eyelet is
indeed the original cutter securing mechanism; a mechanism which didn't
become the norm.
The tool is finished in a black japanned finish.
