Veritas Miniature Low Angle Block Plane Review By: I.Ball

Manufacturer: Veritas

Tool Type: Miniature Low Angle Block Plane

This Veritas Miniature Block Plane review looks at the Veritas Miniature Low Angle Block Plane made by Veritas Tools of Canada.

The Veritas Miniature Block Plane is a small 2 1/2" long, 3/4" wide block plane weighing in at 1.7oz.

The scaled down version gives a charm about it, almost like an ornament, yet and obviously crucially it offers great functionality for detailed work.

The Veritas Miniature Block Plane is constructed from investment-cast stainless steel with a ground sole and decorative circular dimples on the plane sides which also offer additional grip.

The plane is equipped with a stainless steel Norris style adjuster for fine blade adjustments.

The Veritas Miniature Block Plane is fitted with a 1/2" (13mm) wide, 1.5mm thick, A2 steel blade.

This blade has a 25 degree bevel which is set on a low-angle 12 degree bed which gives a 37 degree cutting angle.

While the minature looks in the whole like the fullsize Veritas Block Plane, the miniature does have a few understandable differences including having a fixed mouth and have a different cap locking method.

Such features would cost quite a bit more to make and probably would be overkill in terms of functionality.
