This rosewood plane handle set consists of a rosewood rear handle, rosewood
front knob and a replacement rear handle thread.
This replacement handle set is designed to fit most standard iron bench
planes by Stanley and Record (and probably most similar other makes).
The makers of these replacement plane handles advertise the handles
as fitting plane numbers 4, 5, 6, and 8.
Our testing shows they fit the following planes:
Stanley 4 1/2, Record 04 1/2
Stanley 5, Record 05
Stanley 5 1/2, Record 05 1/2
Stanley 6, Record 06
Stanley 7, Record 07
Stanley 8, Record 08
Stanley 10, Record 010
Record T5
This testing doesn’t account for every one of these planes as some planes were made
to a slightly different specification during the lifetime of the tools, this is
particularly so with the Stanley plane range.
The rear plane handle has a pre-drilled hole running through the full height of
the handle. The handle also has two other partial-drilled holes on the underside
of the handle, one of which is as a guide for an additional screw hole to be added
for the larger bench planes.
These rosewood plane handles can really transform a plane.
Rosewood is an expensive high-end wood which has always been popular in tool making.
The old early bench planes were originally fitted with rosewood handles and the
current high end Clifton bench planes are fitted with African rosewood handles which
are planes which are respected as high quality planes.
