Extra Info: What is a Jack Plane? Jack Plane Videos
Manufacturer: Kunz
Plane Type: Jack
Model No: 5
The Kunz Plus number 5 plane is a 350mm (13 1/2 inch) long Jack plane
from the Kunz Plus plane range.
The Kunz Plus range is Kunz premium line of tools which have been made
to high specification with high precision manufacturing and the inovation
comb run over them to make notable improvements over previous designs.
The Kunz Plus 5 has a plane body made from durable stress-annealed fine
grey-cast iron. The large winged sides and the sole have been precision
milled flat and square. The larger walls are designed in the style of
the Stanley bedrock plane range to increase stability when shooting.
The plane is supplied with a 3.5mm thick, 50mm (2 inch) wide plane blade,
hardened and tempered to 60-62 Rockwell C along with a finely machined
chipbreaker and cap iron, all of which help to significantly eliminate
the risk of chatter.
The plane blade is controlled with a Norris style adjuster. The single
adjuster can be used to make accurate lateral blade adjustments or blade
depth adjustments. The adjustments are controlled using the knurled
brass nut located above the blade.
The lateral adjustments are made by moving the adjuster sideways which
in turn moves the blade laterally. The depth adjustments are made by
turning the knurled brass nut which in turn moves the blade towards
or away from the mouth.
Note: ensure to release the lever cap before making blade adjustments
to avoid damage.
The frog is the central part of the plane on which the blade rests and
where the blade adjuster operates. The frog also has the functionality
of being able to adjust the mouth thickness at which the shavings pass
through.
The Kunz Plus 5 plane is fitted with a shapely rear handle and an extra
bulbous front knob, both of which are made from Cherry.
The top side of the body is finished with a dark green finish.
The plane is supplied in a Kunz cardboard box.
