The Marples Wood Carving Sculpture Set No. M260 is a 5-piece heavy duty
wood carving set known as a wood sculpture tools set.
The hardwood handles are equipped with a steel ferrule on the striking
end to help prevent the handle splitting out and the stem is designed
with a thick strong design.
The M260 set later went on to have 'Blue Chipped Handles' instead of wooden
handles (1991 is the earliest reference so far).
The handles were marked with 'Marples' within an black outlined oblong.
The Marples No. M260 set came in a hinged wooden box with a cardboard
sleeve detailing the set with photos and details.
The Marples number M260 set consisted of the following tools:
1 x 16mm (5/8") Skew Chisel
1 x 9mm (3/8") Straight Gouge
1 x 16mm (5/8") Straight Gouge
1 x 25mm (1") Fantail Gouge
1 x 16mm (5/8") Bent Gouge
The 'Fantail Gouge' is also known as an 'Allongee Gouge'.
The 'Bent Gouge' is also known as a 'Curved Gouge'.
The Marples M260 Carving Tool Set was manufactured by Record Tools Ltd,
Sheffield, England.
It then went on to be manufactured by Record Marples.
During 1988 - 1997+, the Marples M60A Wood Carving Set was manufactured
by Record Marples but advertised as having 'Blue Chip Handled'.
