Category: Old Gardening Tools
Manufacturer: Elwell
Tool Type: Chillington Hoe
Model No: 4514
The old Elwell Hoe 4514 has a head which is attached to the handle via
a tapered circular eye. The handle slides through the eye until wedged
firmly in place. The hoe head is set at right angles to the handle,
a design which allows the user to wield the tool with ease. The handle
can also easily be changed should the need arise.
The Elwell 4514 hoe is a very useful tool for gardening work such as
digging, shaping soil and weeding to name a few uses.
The Elwell Chillington Hoe number 4514 is sometimes mistaken as a
woodworking adze.
The term 'Chillington' comes from a style of gardening hoe related to
firstly a type of tool with centuries of history and secondly the
Chiilington tool company which was/is world famous for having a history
of making Chillington hoes stretching back over 100 years to the late
Victorian times.
