Category: Old Drills
Manufacturer: Clico
Tool Type: Scotch Eye Auger
Model No: 75 Series
The Clico bright Scotch screw eyed auger 75 series drill is a long drill
with an eye at the top allowing the user to fit a customised handle
(or a piece of wood which is laying around).
The handle is essential as it offers a lot of leverage when twisting
the drill.
The tool was a tool used for railway track work and is also used for
rough drilling work.
The tool was produced in a large range of sizes from 1/4" to 2" with
the tool available in increments of 1/16" from 1/4" to 1".
The length of the Clico scotch eye auger drills 75 series were in the
region of 24 inch to 28 inch. One of the 2 inch Clico augers I had measured
28 inch long.
It was possible to buy these tool without the eye although Clico did
not guarantee the precision of the shanks if this option was chosen.
Clico were the company which produced the high-end Clifton plane range
along with making specialist tooling and drill bits for the aerospace
industry, timber workers, cabinet makers and the furniture industry.
Clico (Sheffield) Tooling Ltd ceased trading in 2014, I know Thomas
Flinn took on the Clifton part of the business, I am unsure if another
company took on the drill side of the business (If anyone has any info
on this, I would love to hear from you).
