Category: Other Saws

Manufacturer: Buck

Tool Type: Junior Saw

Model No: 1

We have given this Buck junior saw the model number 1 until a time arrives where a genuine Buck model number is found; I am almost certain there was never a model number given for this saw.

The Buck junior saw is a small saw fitted with an elaborately shaped handle of the time.

The handle was fitted with two old brass split-nut buttons which had the dual function of adding to the elegance of the saw and crucially securing the blade firmly in place.

These saws used to be known by many names including child's saw, table saw and egg box saw.

For information on dating this saw and other British saws, see the 'British Saws and Saw Makers from c1660' book, written by Simon Barley. The book is the most comprehensive saw directory to date listing makers, makers marks and manufacturing dates. There is also a whole host of additional information on the history of saw making, how to date a saw, in depth details on each of the large makers and much more, making for the most interesting read and leaving you with a slight desire to buy an old British saw.
