This Ward and Payne review contains information about the (WP) Ward
and Payne Anvil brand of chisels, often referred to as Ward chisels.
The Ward and Payne chisels were made to the standard format of traditional
chisels with best quality cast steel blades, brass ferrules and hardwood
handles, boxwood in this case.
Boxwood handles are usually considered the best chisel handles due to
the boxwood being very strong and as such they are very hard to damage.
The handles have the (WP) Ward and Payne Anvil brand red and gold logo
printed on them.
The logo consists of 'WP, Anvil Brand, The worlds best tools, Guaranteed
quality' with the crossed hammers and anvil logo.
Ward and Payne produced a whole range of various types of chisels including paring
chisels, firmer gouges, paring gouges, cranked chisels, and other specialist chisels.
The Ward and Payne brand of tools ceased trading in the 20th century, however many
examples of chisels from this well-respected and sought after brand survive today
in tool kits around the world.
