Stanley Spokeshave 64 Review By: I.Ball
Category: Old Spokeshaves
Extra Info: What is a Spokeshave? Spokeshave Videos
Manufacturer: Stanley
Tool Type: Spokeshave
Model No: 64
The Stanley spokeshave number 64 is a simple, inexpensive 9 inch long,
non-adjustable spokeshave.
The spokeshave is classed as a non-adjustable spokeshave due to there
being no fine adjustment mechanism for adjusting the blade.
The 45mm (1 3/4 inch) wide blade on the 64 spokeshave is manually
placed in position by hand.
Once in place, the cutter is secured by locking the lever cap on to
the blade. The lever cap is locked / released by turning the lever cap
thumbscrew.
The spokeshave body and lever cap are made from grey iron and are finished
with a black jappaning finish as standard with nearly all Stanley tools.
The handles on the Stanley 64 are advertised as a 'straight handle'.
Each handle has a circular hole cut in the end to allow the tool to hung from a
hook in the workshop.
The Stanley 64 spokeshave has a flat sole / straight bottom making it suitable for a number
of fine shaving applications including on convex curved edges.
There is an almost identical spokeshave to the Stanley 64 in the form of the Stanley
63 spokeshave. The Stanley 63 has a sole with a round bottom.
