Extra Info: What is a Block Plane? Block Plane Videos
Manufacturer: Stanley
Plane Type: Block
Model No: 9 1/2 G / G12-020 / 12-020G
The Stanley block plane number 9 1/2 G / G12-020 / 12-020G is a compact fully adjustable
block plane which is ideal for finishing and end grain work.
The Stanley 9 1/2 G / G12-020 / 12-020G has a hooded lever cap with a smooth half dome on top.
The face of the lever cap has a knurled pattern, a locking lever and
an eye opening for the securing screw.
The 9 1/2 G / G12-020 / 12-020G plane blade rests on a lateral adjuster and a depth adjuster
which all rest on the bed.
The lateral adjuster functions with the user moving the adjuster side-to-side.
The adjuster is moved by gripping the two folded-over metal grips
protruding above the blade and then sliding it sideways.
This in-turn moves the blade laterally (sideways).
There is a brass depth adjuster wheel nut located above the top of the
blade and lateral adjuster. This when turned moves the blade forwards
or backwards to allow the user to tune the blade to the depth of cut
required.
This 9 1/2 G / G12-020 / 12-020G has the added feature of having an adjustable mouth. The mouth is adjusted by
swivelling the adjuster wrapped around the brass front knob. The brass
knob will need to be loosened slightly before the adjuster will swivel,
it will then need to be tightened once the mouth is in position.
The 9 1/2 G / G12-020 / 12-020G also has a thumb / finger imprint grip on the outer edge of
both sides of the plane to offer extra grip and therefore control when
planing.
The model number of this block plane is discretely inscribed on the
side of the plane.
It is quite easy / common for the user to not know the model number
of this plane and not realise the model number is present, especially
if the side of the plane has become stained / grubby.
