Manufacturer: Record
Plane Type: Smoothing
Model No: 02
The Record smoothing plane number 02 is a smoothing plane which
is the smallest of the Record smoothing planes at 7 1/4 inch (18.4cm)
in length.
The plane is constructed from high grade cast iron with a crucible cast
tungsten steel cutter and a lever cap made with high grade cast iron
with a plated finish. The plane sported a Rosewood rear handle and front
knob.
The Record 02 plane was produced for a period of 10 years through the
1930's to the early 1940's until production stopped during World War II.
The Record 02 was designed for smoothing small pieces of work and was almost certainly
produced because Stanley had a number 2 plane.
The plane is fitted with a flat faced frog with a built-in lateral lever adjuster,
a brass blade depth adjuster wheel, and a frog adjuster screw.
The lateral lever allows the blade to easily be adjusted side-to-side in a controlled
manner.
The brass frog adjuster wheel allows the blade depth to be adjusted in a controlled
and accurate way.
The frog adjuster screw allows the frog to be moved forwards and backwards in a
controlled manner. The positioning of the frog in effect sets the size of the
mouth.
The small Record 02 smoothing plane is constructed from high grade cast iron with a crucible cast
tungsten steel cutter and a lever cap made with high grade cast iron with a plated finish.
It is also fitted with a shaped Rosewood rear handle and front knob.
The Record 02 plane was produced by C&J Hampton Ltd, Sheffield, England.
