Extra Info: What is a Plough Plane? Plough Plane Videos
Manufacturer: Record / Record Marples (Bahco Record Tool Group)
Plane Type: Plough / Plow (option to become a combination plane)
Model No: 045C
The Record plough plane number 045C is plane designed for easily cutting
grooves and rebates / rabbets of varying widths.
The Record 045C plane is also referred to as a Record 045C plow plane
in some parts of the world, noticeably the US and Canada.
The Record 045C plough plane was introduced to the Record range in about
1981 when Record Ridgway Tools (Record Ridgway Limited) became Bahco
Record Tool Group.
The 045C plane was the successor of the
Record 044C plane
and the
Record 050C plane
which were discontinued at the time of the introduction of the 045C.
Bahco Record introduced this plane as part of their 'Record Marples' plane
range.
The Record 045C was designed to be used to cut across end grain as well as with
or along the grain.
The cross-grain work was assisted with the use of a
spur.
The 045C was originally sold with just one cutter as standard, a 4mm cutter.
The fence allows the plane to operate up to a maximum of 160mm from the edge of a
piece of work.
The Record 045C was designed with the ability to upgrade the plane from a plough
/ plow plane (grooving / rebates) to a combination plane.
This could be done with the use of the conversion kit K050C.
The K050C conversion kit allowed addtional functionality such as beading, tonguing,
fluting, reeding and sash work.
The K050C conversion kit converts the plane, you then require the appropriate cutters.
The plough cutters produced for the Record 045C plane were:
Plough - 1/8" (3.2mm), 4mm, 3/16" (4.8mm), 6mm, 1/4" (6.4mm), 5/16" (7.9mm), 9mm,
3/8" (9.5mm), 12mm, 1/2" (12.7mm), 5/8" (15.9mm), 19mm, 7/8" (22.2mm)
The additional cutters for the Record 045C plane for use with the K050C conversion
kit were:
Beading - 1/8" (3.2mm), 3/16" (4.8mm), 1/4" (6.4mm), 3/8" (9.5mm), 1/2" (12.7mm)
