The Record plough plane number 043 is a 14cm (5 1/2 inch) plane designed for making small rebates
and for cutting grooves. The grooves created can be used for the insertion
of panels, glass etc. or for simple sliding doors.
The plane cuts across end grain as well as with or along the grain.
The 043 has an adjustable
depth stop,
2x arms
and a bridged
fence
which can be used left handed or right handed.
The 043 plough plane was originally supplied with three cutters:
3mm (1/8"), 4.5mm (3/16"), 6mm (1/4").
Additional cutters were available for the 043, the sizes available were:
4mm, 6mm, 9mm and 12mm.
The earliest Record 043 planes were supplied in a dark blue cardboard box, next came a slightly lighter blue cardboard box and lastly in a bright blue and white box.
