Manufacturer: Edward Preston
Plane Type: Bullnose
Model No: 1363 (Two versions: 1.black japaned 2.nickel plated)
The Edward Preston plane 1363 is a 3 3/4" long, non-adjustable bull-nose
plane.
This classic plane oozes style, what a great look. Edward Preston were
the masters of making some of the best looking iron plane designs.
There were two slightly different versions of this plane produced, one
was with a black japanned finish the other with a Nickel-plated finish.
The black japanned model was made in two sizes: 5/8 inch wide and 1 1/8
inch wide. The Nickel-plated model was only made with a 1 1/8 inch
wide version.
The plane was made with curves and grips to offer the user extra comfort and
control.
The blade is held firmly in place with the use of the securing cap / lever cap.
The cap locks the blade in place by locating the securing cap into the two notches
in the plane body and then turning until tight the knurled securing wheel located
on the underside of the securing cap.
The securing cap has the EP, two cherries logo symbol on the front as an advertisement
of quality and to indicate who the plane was made by.
The 1363 plane was fitted with a shouldered bevel edge plane blade. The plane
blade sits in the plane with the bevel edge face up. The original plane blade
had 'Edward Preston' markings, usually 'Preston, EP, Birm, Eng'.
This Edward Preston bullnose plane was the forerunner for the
Record 076 plane
design.
