Veritas Miniature Shoulder Plane Review By: I.Ball
Category: Miniature Tools
Manufacturer: Veritas
Tool Type: Miniature Shoulder Plane
Model No: N/A
This Veritas miniature shoulder plane review covers the tool made by
Veritas Tools Inc. of Canada.
The Veritas miniature shoulder plane is a tiny 62mm (2 7/16 inch) long
plane with a 6.3mm (1/4 inch) wide shouldered cutter which spans the
full width of the plane.
The Veritas miniature shoulder plane is scaled down model of the Veritas
medium shoulder plane.
These planes are well suited to delicate, intricate work and are often
referred to as model makers planes, violin makers planes, guitar makers
planes and musical instrument makers planes.
The plane is equipped with an A2 tool steel blade which is hardened to Rockwell
60-62.
As standard the blade is used with the bevel facing upwards.
The blade is held in place with the black lever cap which secures the blade in place
by feeding the lever cap tip through the plane opening at the rear of the plane
towards the plane mouth and then turning the securing nut underneath the lever cap
until the lever cap and blade are secure. Perform the reverse operation to remove
the lever cap.
Note: as with all parts, make sure not to over-tighten the nut to avoid damage to
the plane.
The Veritas miniature shoulder plane has a blade fine adjustment mechanism to allow
accurate setting of the blade depth.
The blade adjustment is controlled by turning the stainless steel nut at the very
rear of the plane.
Note: ensure to loosen the lever cap before making adjustments to avoid damage to
the plane.
This tiny Veritas shoulder plane is presented in a smart fitted black case.
