Veritas Edge Trimming Plane Review By: I.Ball

Manufacturer: Veritas

Plane Type: Edge Trimming

Model No: N/A

This Veritas Edge Trimming Plane review covers the plane made by Veritas Tools of Canada.

The Veritas Edge Trimming Plane which is also referred to as the Veritas Iron Edge Trimming Plane is a specialist hand plane suited for final trimming of jointed boards, it ensures smooth edges exactly 90 degrees to the face and can also be used to create bevels.

he Veritas Edge Trimming Plane I think it is fair to say appears to be heavily influenced by the old Stanley 95 Edge Trimming Plane.

The 6 1/8" long plane is made from ductile cast iron, fitted with a 32mm (1 1/4") wide skewed blade (30 degrees skew) which can plane a full 25mm (1") wide board.

The blade is set on a low-angle 12 degrees bed. The combination of the low-angle and the skewed cutter makes the plane well suited to end-grain work.

The Veritas Edge Trimming Plane blade is available as an A2 blade, O1 blade and a PMV-11 blade. In the UK at the time of writing this review, these planes are usually supplied with the A2 blade as standard.

The plane is equipped with a blade fine depth adjustment mechanism; the brass controlling knob is located just above the blade.

The plane fence has been given to screw holes to allow the user the option of adding their own wooden wedge for making controlled bevels.

The Veritas Edge Trimming Plane is available in lefthand and righthand versions, the most common version is the righthand version.

Having both lefthand and righthand planes gives the advantage of being able to work any grain direction.

Supplied in a Veritas cardboard box.

Cautions / Notes

* Important: please refer to the 'disclaimer' at the foot of this review.
* Wearing safety clothing and eye protection is usually a good idea to help protect against injury.

- The blade(s)/cutter(s) is very sharp, take suitable precautions when using/handling/storing the plane/cutter(s) to prevent injury.

- Failure to loosen parts when making adjustments to the plane can result in damage to the plane such as cross-threading screw threads. Never force a part to move.

- Overtightening parts can cause damage to the plane and the plane threads.
