Manufacturer: Veritas Tools
Plane Type: Bullnose
Model No:
This Veritas Bullnose Plane review covers the Veritas Bullnose Plane
manufactured by Veritas Tools of Canada.
The Veritas Bullnose Plane is Veritas Tools take on 20th Century metal
bullnose planes such as the
Record 077A Bullnose Plane
and the
Stanley 90 Bullnose Plane.
Veritas have put their stamp on the design which screams of a Veritas
tool mixing the black of the securing arm with the grey of the ductile
cast iron body and the bright brass of the securing nuts and adjuster
nut.
The Veritas Bullnose Plane also known as a Veritas Bullnose Rabbet Plane
has a blade spanning the full width of the plane allowing the plane
to be used for rebate work.
The plane also has a removeable toe section which allows the plane to
be used as a chisel plane; this function allows planing right into a
corner.
The blade is 26mm wide (approx.) which is deliberately slightly wider than the
width of the plane (25mm).The blade is 3mm (1/8") thick with a 25 degree bevel.
The cutting face of the plane blade has a 0.0002" flatness tolerance.
There are three different Veritas Bullnose Plane blades available for this plane,
with the only difference being the type of steel:
- O1
- A2
- PMV-11
Check with the retailer for the blade they provide with the Veritas Bullnose
Plane or if they offer a choice of blade types.
The body has a 15 degree bed angle, this combined with the 25 degree blade bevel
gives an effective cutting angle of 40 degrees.
The Veritas Bullnose Plane has adjustable features including blade adjustment
through the use of the rear blade adjuster and has an adjustable mouth which
is controlled by sliding the top section backwards of forwards to make a finer
or wider mouth.
The plane is also fitted with four side set screws which are used to help position
and reposition the blade.
Veritas Tools: "If the blade is in firm contact with all four set screws, depth
of cut adjustment will be difficult or impossible."
The Veritas Bullnose Plane is supplied in a Veritas cardboard box.

* Wearing safety clothing and eye protection is usually a good idea to help protect against injury.
- The blade(s)/cutter(s) is very sharp, take suitable precautions when using/handling/storing
the plane/cutter(s) to prevent injury.
- Failure to loosen parts when making adjustments to the plane can result in damage
to the plane such as cross-threading screw threads. Never force a part to move.
- Overtightening parts can cause damage to the plane and the plane threads.
