Extra Info: What is a Tenon Saw? Tenon Saw Videos
Manufacturer: Spear & Jackson
Tool Type: Tenon Saw
Model No: 5410Y
The Spear and Jackson Tenon Saw No. 5410Y review covers the Spear and
Jackson saw made by Spear and Jackson.
The Spear & Jackson Brass Back Tenon Saw (5410Y) is a traditional
tenon saw with the traditional look and features.
The Spear & Jackson Tenon Saw is fitted with a wooden handle made
from Beech giving a comfortable, tactile feel.
The handle on this saw has been given a dark finish which contrasts
beautifully with the brass parts and the brass coloured markings.
The handle is secured to the blade with the use of three brass nuts,
one of which is faced with a medallion marked 'SJ' with the Crown logo
above it.
The saw has a brass-back spine which gives the blade stength and tension as well
as giving the saw well balanced weight.
The blade is made from hardened and tempered carbon steel which has been given
15 PPI (Points Per Inch).
The teeth employ a universal tooth setup allowing the saw to be used effectively
along the grain (rip) and across the grain (crosscut).
The universal tooth setup is a good all-round tooth setup however it may be noted
it may not necessarily be a master of one or the other.
The handle on this tenon saw is marked 'Spear & Jackson'. The blade on this
saw is marked 'Spear & Jackson, Professional Tenon Saw' and the Spear &
Jackson website address, it is also marked with the SJ crown logo.
The blade on this saw is 10 inch long and has 13ppi (points per inch). 13ppi gives
a smooth cut.
This saw can be resharpened again and again and again and again...
The model number / product number for this tenon saw is 5410Y.
Spear & Jackson also offer a very similar saw with a plain beech handle in the
form of the
Spear & Jackson Brass Back Tenon Saw (9540B).
Spear & Jackson have a long history of saw making which include a number of
old Spear & Jackson tenon saw designs with the
Spear & Jackson No. 52 Tenon Saw
being probably the most famous.
Spear & Jackson's main company logo says 'Spear & Jackson, Since 1760'.
Usually supplied in a cardboard sleeve.
