The William Marples plough plane number M40 is a small single armed plane with
the distinctive William Marples red finish.
The plane has a small fence and three plough plane blades.
This was the smallest model of plough plane. The plane was almost
identical in design to the
Record 040 plough plane.
The Marples M-40 consisted of a cast iron body, depth gauge, single arm
fence, arm/rod, blade clamp and three steel cutters:
- 1/8"
- 3/16"
- 1/4"
Advertised in 1937 as:
M40 Grooving Plane
With adjustable depth gauge, etc. Will cut grooves 1/2" deep up to 3" from edge,
Complete with three cutters 1/8", 3/16", 1/4". Nickel plated fittings. 6/6 each.
