A Ovolo Plane is a woodwork plane designed for forming ovolo moulds.

Traditionally and most commonly an ovolo plane was a wooden moulding plane in the form of a wooden ovolo moulding plane(s) (C.1700 - 1950).

From the 1880's a new way of producing ovolo's / ovoloes came about in the form of the multi-plane. The multi-plane was a plane which came with many different types of cutter including the ovolo cutter.

Multi-planes with ovolo cutters were manufactured in great numbers for about 100 years in the form of Stanley 45 Multi-Plane, Stanley 55 Multi-Plane, and Record 405 Multi-Plane.

Beyond this came the Clifton Multi-Plane which I think had ovolo cutters.

An ovolo plane mould is a quarter-hollow with a step either side of it (fillet). The resulting cut is the reverse with the quarter-hollow producing a quarter-round mould.

Ovolo moulds have been and are a highly popular and common mould.
