The Stanley transitional plane number 24 is a plane design which is a cross between a wooden smoothing plane and an iron smoothing plane.

The Stanley 24 Transitional Plane is an old Stanley plane first made in the late 1800's during Victorian times.

The Stanley 24 plane is a 9 inches long smoothing plane fitted with a 2 inch wide plane cutter. It has a wooden body made from Beech and a cast iron top section which was finished with a black japanning.

The Stanley 24 has similar metal features and sizes of a Stanley 4 plane including being fitted with a Stanley 4 plane blade, cap iron, black lever cap, lateral adjuster and depth adjuster wheel.



The introduction of Stanley Transitional Planes were planes which were a cross between the historically dominant wooden planes of the time and the historically new metal planes.

I saw an old Laurel and Hardy video which shows a transitional plane of the time at the start of the clip:
