Spiers Of Ayr Mitre Plane Review By: I.Ball
Manufacturer: Spiers Of Ayr
Plane Type: Infill - Mitre
Model No:
An old Spiers Of Ayr infill mitre plane.
This plane has a dovetailed sole with double screwed sides holding the
bridge in place and a single screw at the front and the rear
holding the front infill and rear infill in place respectively.
The Rosewood wedge is very elegant with a delicate shaped bottom edge and a
double stepped top.
These particular Spiers planes photographed were 7 inch long by 2 inch
wide and 9 inch long by 2 5/8 inch wide. The original iron was a snecked
plane blade, in the first photos case it was a Ward snecked plane iron.
The second photo shows a replacement blade.
These mitre planes had a very fine mouth.
